Get started with ELAN
ELAN 1 is a free computer software that was developed by the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen.
You can download it for free . If you have never used ELAN, you can refer to the official online tutorial, in addition, several YouTube tutorials are available online.
To start ELAN:
- Double-click on the ELAN icon
- Go to menu File > Open
- In Selected files: click on “Add Media File”, select the media file (.mp4,.mpg, wav,…) in your library that you wish to start coding (e.g., 09.01.17_Example GApS coding1_Sex_KZ_KLN.mp4)
- If you have an already existing template file, in Selected files: click on “Add Template File”, select the coding template file (e.g., GApS_coding template.etf), otherwise, open your media file alone.
